Heartland Emergency Apparatus Training association is pleased to announce the class offerings for the Spring Training Conference. The conference will be held outside of St. Louis in High Ridge, MO. The class line up for the conference is as follows:
Tuesday April 11 F4 Apparatus Electrical Prep Class with Mike O'Neil from Spartan Chassis.
Disc/Drum Brake and ABA Inspection with Derek Guthrie from Spartan Chassis. Technicians will learn the proper operation and set up of Automatic Brake Adjusters along with inspection, troubleshooting, and repair techniques. Participants will also learn CVSA inspection criteria concerning both disc and drum brake systems.
F5 Aerial Fire Apparatus (two day) with John Taylor from Stuphen: Class is considered a prep class for F-5 EVT test. Class will cover terms and phrases related to testing, identify design requirements of aerial apparatus, identifiying electrical and hydraulic system components, cover acceptable practices for maintenance and repair, understand principles of operating apparatus, and requirements for testing and documentation of aerial apparatus.
Wednesday April 12 (All day) Data Link Diagnostics/Electrical Accessory Installation with Mike O'Neil from Spartan Chassis. Class covers SAE11587 and SAE J1939 protocol, multiplex gauges, high idle, DEF light operation, pressure governor, extracting fault codes for engine and ABS from LCD screen. Electrical (communication) options and accessory installs, provide noise filtering, ground locations, shielding and canceling, battery wiring clean and dirty connections. Discussion on the new J1939 OBD HD green connector will be covered.
Wednesday Morning- Steering and Suspension with Derek Guthrie from Spartan Chassis. Technicians will learn about proper maintenance procedures like greasing, servicing reservoir filters/fluid, and setting poppets. By the end of the course techs will be able to troubleshoot suspect steering pump fluid pressure and flow issues by utilizing a hydraulic pressure and flow analyzer, along with reading suspension alignment, and addressing handling issues.
Wednesday Afternoon- Air Conditioning Maintenance and Repair with Derek Guthrie from Spartan Chassis. Class provides an overview of automotive air conditioning systems along with proper testing and inspection procedures to accurately troubleshoot and repair issues. Failure cause analysis discussions will aid in accurate diagnosis of non-suspect components.
Thursday morning April 13 Harrison Generator Class: Justin Majzel is based out of the St. Louis area, and has served as Harrison Hydra-Gen's Midwest Business Manager for the past 3 years. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and is a licensed Professional Engineer. He is a Captain on the New Athens Fire Department, where he has served for 20 years. Justin also has an extensive background as a Fire/Rescue Specialist and has been a Fire Science Instructor at Southwestern Illinois College for the past 8 years, where he provides classroom instruction and hands-on training in all aspects of the Fire & Rescue service."
Rockmount Welding Class: Welding Procedure and Safety presented by Tom Skelton w/Rockmount Research & Alloys: Demonstrate current welding procedures and safety tips along with training on the correct welding rods or wire to use when welding steel, cast, aluminum, and stainless steel. The majority of the class will be hands on welding under Tom’s supervision.
